Hoglander to chair National Mediation Board

advertisement

The National Mediation Board (NMB) recently named Harry Hoglander chairman. He was sworn in as a board member in August 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by the Senate.

Annually, the three-member NMB — currently comprising Hoglander, Read Van de Water and Edward J. Fitzmaurice Jr. — designates a member to serve as board chair. Effective yesterday, Hoglander replaced Fitzmaurice as chairman.

Prior to joining NMB, Hoglander served as a legislative specialist for Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.). He previously served Trans World Airline (TWA) as a captain and TWA's Master Executive Council as master chairman. Hoglander also was elected executive vice president of the Airline Pilots Association and served as labor representative to the United States Bi-Lateral Negotiating Team.

NMB is an independent federal agency established by the Railway Labor Act, which governs airline and railroad labor-management relations. NMB members — only two of whom can be from the same political party — serve three-year terms.
