Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Check another easier-to-do-business-with item off CSX Transportation's e-business to-do list. The railroad has added a rail-car ordering tool on its secure Web site ShipCSX to enable shippers to forecast and manage car orders.
The online tool features a calendar for scheduling cars up to five weeks in advance and managing empty cars, a "check car supply" application for viewing car movements during a two-week window and planning logistics, and links for obtaining help with car-order processes.
"Customers have been asking for an easier way to place and manage car orders, and they need to be able to check the status of their car orders online," said Jim Snyder, CSXT assistant vice president of car management, in a prepared statement, adding that the tool's design was based on shippers' input.
The tool is available only to registered ShipCSX users. To register, log onto www.csx.com and click on the "Sign up for eBusiness" application.
