Class Is answer STB's call for fall peak service plans

On Friday, the Surface Transportation Board publicly released the Class I's fall peak service plans, which Chairman Roger Nober requested by letter on June 9.

The presidents of the seven Class Is provided responses detailing how their railroad will meet an expected increase in rail transportation demand in fall.

"The railroads' responses show that they are keenly aware of the increased demands being placed on them, that they are working to identify potential service problems and are bringing on as many resources as possible to meet any increase in demand," said Nober in a prepared statement. "While I hope these steps are enough to ensure that customers receive the best rail service possible during the peak season, I will continue to direct the board to monitor the situation closely, and will work with both the railroads and their customers to address any issues brought to my attention."

On its Web site at www.stb.dot.gov, the STB provides links to Nober's letter, and responses from Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Canadian National Railway Co., Canadian Pacific Railway, CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern Railway and Union Pacific Railroad.
