Ridership at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s (PANYNJ) Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) rail system continued to be impacted by the pandemic in August.
PATH reported 2.7 million riders in August, down 62% from August 2019. Ridership was essentially flat compared to July, dipping just 1% from July's 2.73 million riders, PANYNJ officials said in a press release.
Meanwhile, cargo volumes at the seaport continued their streak of record high cargo activity for the 13th consecutive month, as August 2021 became the third-busiest month in the port’s history.
The port moved 780,782 20-foot equivalent units in August. This was a record for the month of August and third-highest monthly volume since the port began tracking cargo activity, port officials said.
Cargo volume rose 14.9% from August 2019's level and climbed 2.9% from July's level.
