The Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) is offering $4,000 hiring bonuses in an effort to recruit enough operators, technicians and mechanics for the agency's rail and bus services.

The bonuses are an example of the challenge transit agencies face in recruiting and retaining workers during the current labor shortage. RTD is recruiting for the following positions: light- and commuter-rail operators and engineers; body shop technicians; general repair mechanics; signal power maintainers; electro-mechanics; facilities maintenance mechanics; and bus operators.

"RTD is comprised of people who move people, and without front-line team members, the agency could not realize its mission of making lives better through connections," said RTD General Manager and CEO Debra Johnson in a press release.

RTD offers employee growth opportunities, on-the-job training and a comprehensive benefits package, agency officials said.
