NCDOT's 10-year transportation plan open for review

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking public input on its 10-year State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

The STIP lays out how and when transportation projects are expected to be funded during fiscal-years 2024 to 2033. Projects scheduled in the first five years are considered to be committed, while those scheduled in the latter five years are subject to re-evaluation when the next STIP is developed, NCDOT officials said in a press release.

The document is available for public review here. There will be upcoming opportunities for public comment, which NCDOT will use to produce a revised draft by December.

The STIP is typically updated every two years, but this plan was “developed under unique circumstances,” officials said. That’s because material and labor cost escalations led local, regional and state transportation planning partners to forego the usual process for prioritizing projects, instead deciding the new STIP should be built from existing projects in the current plan, which accounts for FY2020-29, to the extent that funding allows.
