Amtrak and the Surface Transportation Board last week were named to two lists ranking them as best places to work.
Amtrak achieved the highest possible score on the 2022 Disability Equality Index, which rates companies and organizations based on the following benchmark categories: culture and leadership; enterprise-wide access; employment practices; community engagement; and supplier diversity, Amtrak officials said in a press release. The DEI this year assessed 415 organizations.
The DEI is a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities, the nation’s largest disability advocacy group, and Disability:IN, which advances inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace. The ranking was launched in 2015 and has since helped organizations create roadmaps and policies that improve disability inclusion.
"We are thrilled to receive a score of 100 and we’ll challenge ourselves to find ways to take our efforts for disability inclusion even further," said Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner. “We remain dedicated to maintaining our Best Places to Work status.”
The STB was named to the 2021 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government list, reaching fifth overall in the small agencies category. A joint initiative from the Partnership for Public Service and The Boston Group, the list has measured employee engagement and satisfaction across the federal government since 2003.
Agencies are assessed in multiple categories, including employee engagement and satisfaction, leadership, innovation and work-life balance. The data produced by the rankings each year also helps leaders in the public and private sectors to create roadmaps to better manage and improve their organizations.
"Our employees work tirelessly to provide the best possible service for the public and our stakeholders, all while dealing with an ever-changing work environment," said STB Chairman Martin Oberman in a press release.
