Add Kansas City Southern to the list of Class Is that plan to pre-pay taxes in Louisiana and Mississippi to help fund Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. KCS will pre-pay its 2005 property and real estate taxes to 11 Louisiana parishes and three Mississippi counties totaling about $655,000.

“We realize that state and local governments face enormous demands right now, at a time when their local tax base may not be generating enough revenues for them to respond with,” said KCS Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Haverty in a prepared statement.

In addition, the KCS Charitable Fund recently contributed $10,000 to the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation, $10,000 to the Mississippi Hurricane Relief Fund, and $5,000 each to the Salvation Armies in Louisiana and Mississippi to aid recovery efforts. KCS also is providing trains to move emergency relief supplies and equipment to the Gulf Coast region, and making available several of its vacant buildings in the area for relief supplies storage.
