Last week, the Transportation Association of Canada presented the 2005 Canadian Transportation Awards, which recognize leadership, excellence and achievement in all modes.

The association named Dan Doyle, former deputy minister of British Columbia’s transportation ministry, the Transportation Person of the Year. Throughout his career, Doyle worked in all aspects of transportation, from engineering to administration.

The association also presented Awards of Excellence to Operation Lifesaver Inc. (Canada) National Director Dan Di Tota and retired Transport Canada economist John Lawson.

The award recognizes Di Tota’s efforts to develop a mobile classroom, emergency responder training packages and a community trespass prevention guide. The association recognized Lawson, who retired from Transport Canada in April, for his role as one of Canada’s most reputable transportation economists for more than three decades.

Finally, the association bestowed an Award of Achievement to Transoft Solutions Inc. President Milton Carrasco, who helped develop AutoTURN vehicle simulation software.

The association launched the Canadian Transportation Awards this year to bestow honors similar to National Transportation Week’s awards program, which ended in 2004.
