Last month, the League of Railway Industry Women (LRIW) presented the "Outstanding Woman of the Year Award" to Murphy Krajenta, BNSF Railway Co.’s director of equipment systems and decision support. Sponsored by Progressive Railroading, the award recognizes an individual’s dedication, commitment and contribution to the railroad industry. The association received more than 100 nominations.

A 30-year rail industry veteran, Krajenta was named in several nomination letters for her technology innovation and "commitment to getting the job done."

"Murphy continues to have a significant and lasting impact on the systems, processes and rules that drive our industry," wrote Peter Purdy, Canadian National Railway Co.’s senior manager of traffic management systems, in a nomination letter.

LRIW also named Carol Weekley, BNSF’s senior manager of equipment utilization, "Member of the Year."

A 27-year rail industry veteran, Weekley won the honor for her hard work and dedication to railroading. As the league’s publicity chair, she created LRIW’s first-ever quarterly newsletter and helped organize annual conferences.

"She has taken these areas further than they have gone before and works very quietly behind the scene to make sure everything is perfect," said LRIW President Tracy DeLeon.
