National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) member Ellen Engleman Conners recently sent a letter to President Bush to withdraw her nomination for a second term as board chairman. The president nominated her in April.

Engleman Conners — who served as chairman from March 2003 to March 2005 — plans to continue serving as a board member. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2007.

“My decision … is based in large part on the opportunity these last seven months have given me to serve without the additional demands of the chairmanship,” Engleman Conners said in a prepared statement.

Before joining the board in 2003, Engleman Conners served as administrator of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Special Programs Administration.
