Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) announced today it would join RailPulse, an industry coalition of rail-car owners that created an open-architecture telematics infrastructure designed to provide real-time information on a car’s location, health and condition.
CPKC becomes the third Class I and 10th member to join RailPulse, which was formed in 2020 to support the development and use of GPS and other telematics technologies, according to a RailPulse news release.
"We welcome CPKC to the RailPulse coalition. Together, we will drive transformative change in the rail sector by combining our strengths and fostering a culture of innovation," said David Shannon, general manager of RailPulse. "This partnership underscores our commitment to shaping the future of rail transportation."
Other members include GATX, Genesee & Wyoming Inc., Norfolk Southern Railway, Railroad Development Corp., The Greenbrier Cos., TrinityRail, Union Pacific Railroad, Watco and Bunge North America.
“The insights that CPKC will be able to contribute from operating in three countries will be invaluable as we drive RailPulse to serve all of North America,” said RailPulse Chair Mike McClellan, NS’ senior vice president and chief strategy officer.
Earlier this week, Bunge announced it would join RailPulse, becoming the first rail-car-owning shipper to sign on. Bunge’s participation will help the coalition enhance service levels, visibility, safety and productivity within North American rail-based supply chains, RailPulse officials said.
