Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Canadian National Railway Co. recently moved the first unit train of metallurgical coal from Northern Energy & Mining Inc.’s (NEMI) Trend Small Mine near Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, to a coal port in Prince Rupert, B.C.
The 10,000-ton shipment makes NEMI the first new metallurgical coal producer in the Tumbler Ridge area since 1983, according to the mining firm. The company plans to mine and export about 240,000 tons of low-sulphur coal — which is used in steel production — annually.
“Congratulations to NEMI on a great team effort in planning and completing the rail link into their new mine,” said CN Vice President of Bulk Commodities Ross Goldsworthy in a prepared statement. “CN looks forward to a long and successful working relationship with NEMI.”
