The Transportation Services Index (TSI) rebounded in November after a one-month drop. The month’s index reached 112.2, a 1.2 percent increase compared with October and 1.7 percent gain compared with November 2004, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

November’s Freight TSI of 113.2 set a monthly record and rose 1.7 percent compared with October — the highest one-month gain since February 2004 and first increase in three months. In addition, the November index rose 1.4 percent compared with November 2004.

November’s Passenger TSI of 109.5 fell 0.1 percent compared with October — the second-straight monthly decline. However, the index increased 2.4 percent compared with November 2004.

During a six-month period ending in November, the TSI rose 0.2 percent and Freight TSI increased 0.4 percent, but Passenger TSI dropped 0.5 percent compared with the previous six-month period.

The TSI is a measure of month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by for-hire transportation industries, including rail, air, truck, inland waterways, pipelines and local transit.
