Organizers expect more than 600 people from 30 countries to attend the 7th World Congress on Railway Research to be held June 4-8 at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in Montreal. The event is expected to draw attendees from labor unions, suppliers, government agencies, shippers and research firms in the worldwide freight- and passenger-rail industries.

The event will include presentations on the technical, societal and financial challenges facing railways around the world; awards will be given for the best research papers presented during the conference. In addition, the event will include indoor exhibits; outdoor locomotive, rolling stock and training equipment displays on nearby tracks at the Lucien L'Allier Commuter Station; and technical tours of rail facilities, such as maintenance and research centers, and intermodal yards in the Montreal and Ottawa areas.

The conference’s platinum, gold and silver sponsors are Bombardier Inc., VAE Nortrak and Siemens, respectively. CAD Railway Services, Plasser Canada, Agence Metropolitaine de Transport and the Railway Association of Canada are special sponsors.

Since holding the first research congress in 1994 in Paris, organizers have scheduled the event every two years at venues in Colorado, Italy, Japan, Germany and Scotland. The 2008 congress will be held in Seoul, Korea.
