Last year, BNSF Railway Co.'s industrial development efforts paid off in 144 new or expanded facilities along its lines.

New facilities included ethanol plants in Iowa, Nebraska and New Mexico; lumber yards and transload terminals in Arizona, California, Oklahoma, Oregon, Montana and Texas; and consumer and perishable products warehouses in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas, Utah and Washington. Supply chain and logistics management firm Oregon Transfer recently opened a 317,000-square-foot food-grade warehouse in Portland, Ore.

"Our partnerships with state and local public and private economic development agencies help businesses accelerate improvements to their supply chain process — from site selection to optimizing distribution networks," said Vann Cunningham, BNSF assistant vice president of economic development, in a prepared statement.
