Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On Sept. 1, James Seney will step down from his post as Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) executive director, ending a 38-year government career in Ohio.
During his 10-year tenure, the commission developed the Ohio Hub Plan — which calls for constructing a high-speed passenger and freight-rail corridor between Columbus, Ohio, and Pittsburgh — and a grade crossing improvement program. The ORDC also helped develop the Rickenbacker Intermodal Hub in Columbus that’s used by Norfolk Southern Railway, and the Heartland Corridor high-speed double-stack container line between Columbus and Norfolk, Va.
“I feel I have done as much as I can with the limited resources that have been available to our commission, “ said Seney in a prepared statement. “We have a lot to show for it as a result. We have forged important partnerships with Ohio’s railroads, especially with major freight carriers Norfolk Southern and CSX.”
Prior to joining the ORDC in 1996, Seney served as a statewide and regional business development representative for the Ohio Department of Development, and as the department’s liaison on transportation issues. He also founded the Ohio Port Authorities Council and was mayor of Sylvania, Ohio, for 19 years.
