Chinese rail ministry sale marks Harsco Track's largest-ever track maintenance equipment order

Harsco Track Technologies (HTT) recently obtained track maintenance equipment orders from the Chinese Ministry of Railways totaling more than $350 million over four years — the equipment provider’s largest-ever sale.

The ministry placed two orders calling for more than 40 rail grinders to be delivered by early 2011. The Chinese railway will use the grinders to re-profile railheads to extend rail life, attain smoother travel at higher speeds, and reduce fuel consumption and operating costs.

A Harsco Corp. subsidiary, HTT provides track maintenance equipment and services in North America, China, Japan, India and Europe. Last month, the company obtained an order from Brazilian mining company Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) for one mainline rail grinder — HTT’s first equipment order in Brazil in more than a decade.
