The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) recently awarded a $22 million contract to consulting, engineering and construction services firm Earth Tech Inc. to advance station design work it began in 2004.

Under the two-year contract, Earth Tech will incorporate community feedback into aesthetic design for six stations along the proposed Silicon Valley Rapid Transit route, a 16.3-mile Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) extension from Fremont to San Jose, Calif. The firm also will design supporting intermodal transfer facilities, pedestrian and roadway bridges, parking structures and new streets.

In addition, Earth Tech will continue to serve as a subcontractor on two other design contracts for the $4.8 billion extension. The company will provide engineering support to HNTB Corp. for the 10-mile aboveground portion of the line, and to a Parsons Brinckerhoff/PGH Wong Engineering joint venture for electrical and mechanical systems.

VTA plans to operate and maintain the extension under a contract with BART. The line is scheduled to open in 2016.
