On Monday, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) carried its 100 millionth passenger in fiscal-year 2007 — the first time the agency has surpassed the 100-million mark, and it occurred with five days to go in the fiscal year.

The agency set the previous annual ridership record of 97 million in FY2001.

The milestone caps off a year’s worth of record-breaking passenger counts for BART. Between April 30 and May 6, the agency posted its highest-ever weekly ridership of 2.1 million passengers; on June 13, BART set an all-time-high weekday ridership of 381,200; and on June 25, the agency posted its highest-ever Sunday ridership of 195,700.
