Washington dinner train makes switch to Tacoma route

advertisement

Last week, the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train made its first run on a new route.

Since its 1992 inception, the train has operated year-round on a line that runs from Renton, Wash., along Lake Washington. But a portion of the track was removed during the recent expansion of Interstate 405, so dinner train officials signed a 10-month pilot agreement with Tacoma Rail to operate the service from downtown Tacoma south to Lake Kapowsin and back to Tacoma.

The service will only run when dinner trains don't interfere with Sound Transit, Amtrak or Tacoma Rail traffic, according to the agreement. If the pilot is successful, the dinner train and Tacoma Rail plan to sign a long-term agreement to operate the train along the route for at least 20 years.
