Yesterday, MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) expanded the Staten Island Railway’s (SIR) morning rush-hour express train service.

The agency extended the service by 45 minutes, adding three express trains between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. to connect with the Staten Island Ferry.

Last month, NYCT phased in additional SIR evening trains, expanding express serivce by 80 minutes. The agency is adding service in response to a surge in SIR ridership, which rose 10.2 percent in the third quarter.
