The Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM), which operates suburban trains for the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, recently awarded rail services contracts totaling $276 million to two consortiums.

Under the first contract, the Consórcio de Manutecao Ferroviária (COMAFER) — a partnership comprising Bombardier, Alstom, Consrucciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), MPE, Tejofran and Temoinsa — will maintain and refurbish 144 Series 2100 coaches.

The second contract calls for Cobraman II — a consortium comprising Bombardier, Alstom and CAF — to maintain and refurbish 120 Series 2000 coaches for the agency.

Work on both contracts is scheduled to begin before 2007’s end and take about four years to complete. COMAFER and Cobraman II have been providing vehicle maintenance and refurbishment services to CPTM since 2002.
