Sound Transit's Tacoma Link light-rail line exceeds ridership projections

When Sound Transit opened its Tacoma Link light-rail system for revenue service Aug. 22, officials predicted the line would average 2,000 daily riders by 2010. But ridership figures already have exceeded those expectations — the system carried 2,000 or more daily passengers on eight of the first 13 weekdays it was open.

On opening day, 4,400 people rode on Tacoma Link; by Sept. 10, the 1.6-mile line had carried 39,000 riders.

Tacoma Link connects Tacoma Dome Station and the historic Theater District.
