New Jersey Transit recently included a $25 million "Park and Ride Expansion Program" its fiscal-year 2004 budget.

Under the program, NJ Transit would construct 2,315 and design 1,400 parking spaces at various transit facilities.

The FY04 program includes $23 million for land acquisition and construction, and $2.6 million for planning and design work.

Additional spaces are necessary to meet growth accelerated by existing and new passenger services, according to a prepared statement. During the next five years, the agency plans to add 10,000 new parking spaces at system-wide stations.
