Hungarian Railways recently awarded Alcatel Transport Automation Solutions two contracts totaling $25.5 million to install signaling on two lines.

Alcatel will install its 6131 LockTrac System on the Budapest-Cegléd-Szolnok line. The supplier will be responsible for designing, delivering and installing the interlocking equipment for three rail stations, and installing a central traffic-control system in Monor to complement the interlocking system, enabling the railroad to monitor trains more efficiently, according to a prepared statement.

Alcatel also will install its 6413 AlTrac system on the Budapest-Austrian border section of the railway to control trains and increase speeds. The system is based on the latest European Train Control standards. Alcatel will equip 17 locomotives with on-board systems to interface with the equipment.

The contracts follow an order Hungarian Railways placed with Alcatel in 2000 to install train-control and interlocking systems on the Zallovo-Hodos line.
