Next year, MTA Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road plan to begin a pilot program offering passengers a CityTicket fare on weekends for one-way trips within New York City.

Available for $2.50 on Saturdays and Sundays, the ticket would prevent passengers from paying the full off-peak fare, according to a prepared statement.

During the six-month trial, passengers will be surveyed to assess usage, cost, revenue and customer-service impacts.
