Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On Wednesday, third-party logistics provider Nexus Distribution announced it opened the Chicago Land Bridge, a $1 million half-mile-long private roadway that links a Windy City CSX Transportation intermodal facility to a Nexus distribution center.
Nexus plans to use the bridge to transport “heavy” containers — those weighing more than allowed on U.S. public roadways — between the CSXT facility and its distribution center.
The land bridge will enable manufacturers and retailers to ship maximum-weight containers via intermodal, avoid de-consolidation activities at a port of entry and send freight directly to Nexus’ Chicago container station for storage or immediate transload service, according to Nexus.
“We are embracing an opportunity to help our clients realize the benefits of intermodal shipping,” said Nexus President Will Hansen in a prepared statement.
