Late last week, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels unveiled the state’s new strategic energy plan, which includes building a $400 million, 200-million-gallon ethanol plant at the Port of Indiana-Mount Vernon.

The plant will be built by Aventine Renewable Energy Holdings Inc. and Consolidated Grain and Barge Co. on a 116-acre site that has access to rail, barge and truck service.

Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2007 and be complete in January 2010. The project’s first phase is expected to be complete in September 2008, providing production capacity of 110 million gallons of ethanol.
