Association of American Railroads' Coupling and Draft Systems Committee recently granted ASF-Keystone Inc. conditional approval under AAR specification M-901G-00 for its Twin-Pack Model F-325G and R-325G draft gears, the supplier announced Sept. 20.
The new gears, which primarily would be used in coal service, weigh less per car set (from 292 pounds for the standard F coupler to 360 pounds for the rotary coupler) compared with traditional type draft gears.
Since April 2001, 210 car sets of Twin-Pack Model E-425G draft gears have been used on heavy-duty slab cars, ASF-Keystone said.
