advertisement
The Association of American Railroads' Policy and Economics Department recently released the 2004 edition of Railroad Facts, a pocket-sized reference guide containing Class I statistics and graphics for 2003 and selected prior years — in some cases as far back as 1929.
The guide contains more than 80 pages of data on finance, traffic, operations, plant and equipment, employment and compensation, fuel consumption and cost, and loss and damage. For example, the book shows Class Is spent about $5.9 billion on capital improvements and logged 1.55 trillion ton-miles of freight service last year
The guide also contains a profile of each U.S. and Canadian Class I, Mexico's two largest railroads and Amtrak.
The book costs $5 per copy for AAR members; non-members can purchase one copy for $15 each, two to 10 copies for $12 each and more than 10 copies for $10 each. To obtain copies, visit the AAR's Web site at www.aar.org.
