The 2004 Railroad Equipment Report now is available from the Association of American Railroads’ Policy and Economics Department.

The report features detailed information on freight cars and locomotives in the United States, Canada and Mexico, such as the number of rail cars by car type and ownership. The publication also includes statistics on the average and aggregate capacity of fleets by car type and ownership; statistics on Class I locomotive fleets’ size and horsepower; and the number of new and rebuilt Class I locomotives.

Copies of the report are available to the general public for $60 and AAR members for $30. The report also can be downloaded in a PDF file for $50. Copes can be ordered through the AAR Web site at www.aar.org, or requested by mail at Association of American Railroads, Department 6015, Washington, D.C. 20042-6015.
