Association of American Railroads' Policy and Economics Department recently released the 25th annual edition of "Analysis of Class I Railroads," which provides 2002 data on seven Canadian and U.S. Class Is.

The fact book contains more than 750 types of financial and operating statistics for each Class I divided by eastern and western districts, and the United States as a whole. Data categories include financial results, employment, plant and equipment, traffic, fuel consumption, and other operating statistics and rankings.

Last year, Class Is installed more than 13 million ties, placed into service 745 new locomotives and consumed 3.7 billion gallons of diesel, according to the analysis.

Hardcover copies or a diskette version are available to the general public for $250 and AAR members for $100 plus a $6 handling charge per order. For more information, visit AAR's Web site at www.aar.org.
