Association of American Railroads Sept. 30 released the 2002 edition of its Railroad Equipment Report, which for the first time provides rail-car and locomotive data for U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads.
The report includes information on the number of cars in each nation's fleet based on car type and ownership, a fleet's average and aggregate capacity by car type and ownership, locomotive fleet statistics (including size and horsepower) for all North American Class Is, and U.S. Class Is' number of new and rebuilt locomotives.
"With North America’s freight railroads becoming more integrated every day and the increasing importance of freight railroads in international trade, we felt the time was right to expand the coverage of this annual publication to include the data from Mexico and Canada," said Craig Rockey, AAR vice president for policy and economics, in a prepared statement.
AAR members can purchase the report for $30 and the general public, for $60, either online at www.aar.org or by mail at Department 6015, Washington, D.C., 20042-6015. Order forms are available online or by calling 202-639-2102.
