ADS Logistics brings rail service back to Louisiana facility

ADS Logistics L.L.C.'s Roll & Hold division recently renovated its Shreveport, La., facility to add box-car loading and unloading operations.

Earlier this year, Roll & Hold executives approached Union Pacific Railroad officials about re-establishing the facility's rail service to enable the division to ship additional metals and finished metal parts. Since opening in September 2003, the facility has handled flat steel blanks for the automotive industry.

The renovated facility features a box-car dock designed to accommodate lighter weight coils on skids, auto parts in racks and other commodities.

"The Arkansas/Louisiana/Texas region has a growing number of metals consuming plants, but it's a long way from the mills," said Roll & Hold Vice President Bill Edwards in a prepared statement. "Manufacturers in the region need an economical alternative to long distance trucking, which our rail and container handling facilities in Shreveport [can] provide."

Roll & Hold officials plan to renovate the facility to handle open gondolas and covered coil cars to serve other metals markets.

ADS Logistics provides logistics and supply chain services for the metals industry, including multi-modal transportation; warehousing, and logistics and inventory management.
