ALSTOM, Bombardier to supply double-deck trainsets for French railway

The French National Railway (SNCF) recently awarded a $187 million contract to an Alstom Transport/Bombardier Transportation partnership to supply 16 double-deck Caradia Duplex trainsets.

The five-car trainsets will operate in France’s Haute-Normandie region. Alstom’s portion of the contract totals $144 million; Bombardier, which will manufacture 32 of the cars, will receive about $43 million. The trainsets will be delivered by 2010.

The order is part of a multi-year investment program SNCF launched in 2000 to renew its express train fleet to meet growing ridership demand. Since then, Alstom has obtained SNCF orders for a total of 747 coaches.
