The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) recently elected the late John Dyer into its Hall of Fame.

Dyer — who died in May 2003 — last served as a principal consultant with PB Consult, the management consulting division of Parsons. He joined Parsons Brinckerhoff in 1999 as a consultant for transit system developments in Vancouver, B.C.; Orange County, Calif.; Nashville; and Austin, Texas.

From 1981 to 1988, Dyer served as general manager of Los Angeles’ Southern California Rapid Transit District, where he secured funding for the first two phases of Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s subway system and helped plan the transportation system for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games.

From 1973 to 1981, Dyer served as chief executive officer of the Metropolitan Dade County Transportation Administration, managing the development of an elevated heavy-rail system and downtown people mover.

In 1998, he served as interim CEO for the Pasadena Metro Blue Line Construction Authority, where he was responsible for implementing the first phase of a rail project from Los Angeles to Pasadena and a 24-mile extension to Claremont.
