ARCI: Rail-car orders climb, deliveries fall in Q1

Rail-car orders in first-quarter 2021 totaled 6,227 units, up from  3,397 units in Q4 2020, according to quarterly statistics released by the Railway Supply Institute's American Railway Car Institute Committee (ARCI).

A year ago, Q1 orders stood at 6,172 units.

Car deliveries in Q1 2021 fell to 5,996 units from 6,216 units in Q4 and 10,824 in Q1 2020.

Meanwhile, the rail-car backlog stood at 34,829 units on April 1. That compares with 34,598 on Dec. 31, 2020; 37,417 on Oct. 1, 2020; and 39,612 on July 1, 2020.
