Rail-car orders in first-quarter 2023 totaled 8,307 units, down from 11,525 units in Q4 2022, according to Railway Supply Institute's American Railway Car Institute Committee (ARCI) data.
In Q1 2022, rail-car orders stood at 12,957 units.
Car deliveries in Q1 2023 decreased to 11,296 units from 12,242 in Q4 2022, but increased from 8,043 units in Q1 2022.
Meanwhile, the rail-car backlog stood at 56,062 units on April 1, down from 59,698 units on Jan. 1. In 2022, the backlog totaled 61,415 units on Oct. 1; 47,461 units on July 1; and 46,208 units on April 1.
