The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association’s (AREMA) Educational Foundation recently awarded 2007 scholarships totaling more than $34,000 to 19 engineering students.
The recipients are Lauren Bendes, Amanda Larsen, Brent Marsh, Nils Stenvig, Jonathan White and Joseph Zellmer, who are enrolled at Michigan Technological University; Jack Contri, Darwin Schafer, Bryan Schlake and John Zeman at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Lauren Hale and Aislinn Weldon at Northeastern University; Matthew Cosgro at Western New England College; Jack Ellsworth at Cornell University; Briean Griggs at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University; Nathan Hay at the University of Missouri-Rolla; Boris Lipchin at Carnegie Mellon University; Phillip Meinel at the University of Wisconsin-Plateville; and John Zollars at Drexel University.
The winners will be enrolled as student AREMA members for the remainder of 2007. In addition, the recipients are invited to attend AREMA’s 2007 Annual Conference & Exposition in Chicago to be held Sept. 9-12.
The association established the charitable foundation to promote educational activities related to railway engineering.
Meanwhile, AREMA has appointed Cori Dossett director of marketing. She has six years experience’ in association management, including event planning and trade show logistics/production, and will be responsible for promoting AREMA programs and services, and managing the association’s annual exposition.
