On April 26, the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) will hold a Clean Water Act compliance seminar at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago.

The event is designed to provide attendees a working knowledge of the federal Clear Water Act's regulatory programs and requirements, including nationwide controls on pollutants discharged into surface waters, spill prevention controls and countermeasures, and necessary permits for dredging or filling watercourses or wetlands. The seminar is targeted at railroad engineering, construction, operations and facilities management departments, as well as rail industry contractors and consultants.

Seminar instructors include Mel Burda, BNSF Railway Co.; John Calhoun, CSX Transportation; Geoffrey Nokes, Canadian National Railway Co.; Steve McNaughton, Union Pacific Railroad; Kent Kading, Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure Inc.; and Melissa Papworth, Kennedy/Jenks Consultants.
