Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) soon will have the latest video surveillance equipment. Under a contract partially funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, ARINC Inc. is designing, integrating and installing advanced video monitoring equipment at select MTA subway, light-rail and commuter-rail stations.
The firm will install remote-controlled cameras to monitor station platforms and surrounding areas, and MTA equipment. The cameras will feature “video analytics,” which are designed to scan incoming images and detect unusual movement or suspicious activity. The surveillance system will feed a video stream to a central monitoring facility.
ARINC will complete installations by early 2008.
