ASF-Keystone and Standard Car Truck Co. Oct. 29 formed an alliance to build a full line of rail-car trucks; Standard Car would partner with ASF-Keystone to serve North American customers and with ASF-Keystone parent company AMSTED Industries Inc. to serve global customers.
ASF-Keystone and Standard Car formed a rapid-response development team, which is charged with bringing new and expanded products to production by first-quarter 2002. Engineers from the two companies already met to lay development groundwork.
"Because of the large variety of car types and the additional requirements being placed on new cars coming into service today to carry heavier loads at faster speeds, there is a real need for a full range of truck types for use both in North America and throughout the world," said Standard Car Chief Executive Officer Richard Mathes in a prepared statement.
The partnership plans to combine truck design and manufacturing capabilities, resulting "in a quicker response with a better product solution," said ASF-Keystone President John Wories.
