The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) recently partnered with the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks (CABT) to lobby against federal and state legislation proposing to increase truck size or weight.

A coalition of law enforcement officers, local elected officials and other community leaders, CABT aims to oppose efforts at all government levels to make trucks longer and heavier.

“ASLRRA has historically been concerned about truck size and weight issues because increases in size or weight directly affect short line operations by diverting freight from rail to road for cargo traveling less than 500 miles — the core of short-line business,” ASLRRA officials said in a “Views and News” item posted July 23. “The association’s concern is even greater today, and CABT has developed a method to combine our concerns and their work into a direct plan of action.”
