In conjunction with Class Is, American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) recently developed a security-awareness training program tied to hazardous-material shipments, according to the association's bi-weekly newsletter released Aug. 8.
The program complies with U.S. Department of Transportation's new rule requiring all haz-mat shippers and carriers to train employees on security assessment. By no later than March 25, 2006, each haz-mat employee must receive training that "provides an awareness of security risks associated with hazardous-materials transportation and methods to enhance transportation security," the rule states.
On Aug. 8, the association began electronically distributing the program to members.
