The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) plans to introduce a new safety award this year: the Safety Professional of the Year.
The award will recognize an individual who’s considered an “excellent communicator, motivator and organizer,” consistently produces “documentable safety achievements,” and is respected by “peers, senior management and subordinates,” ASLRRA officials said in an item included in the association’s latest “Views and News.”
The award is open to any railroad management employee of an ASLRRA member railroad who is responsible for safety programs, training and overall safety management. The association is accepting nominations for the first Safety Professional of the Year until Feb. 25.
The ASLRRA also is accepting nominations until Feb. 25 for the Most Improved Railroad, Safety Person of the Year, annual marketing awards and Susan Murray Memorial Scholarship, a four-year college scholarship available to daughters and granddaughters of employees at ASLRRA member railroads and associate member companies.
