Interested in sharing a rail-oriented technical paper with industry colleagues? Then contact the organizers of a joint American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)/Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE)/American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) rail conference to be held April 22-23, 2008, at the Doubletree Downtown Hotel in Wilmington, Del.

The ASME Rail Transportation Division, IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and ASCE Transportation & Development Institute's Rail Transportation Committee are soliciting technical papers for the conference, which will be themed "Improving Railroad Efficiency and Reliability for a Safer Environment."

The organizers welcome submissions from members of the rail supply industry, railroads, transit-rail agencies, governmental agencies, consulting/engineering firms, universities and technical organizations. Papers should cover topics of current interest, such as positive train control, substation design, signal improvements, locomotive and vehicle ride quality and crash worthiness, rolling stock design and maintenance, electronic-controlled air brake systems or tank-car design.

Paper abstracts are due Dec. 2 and must be submitted through ASME's Web site at http://asmeconferences.org/jrc08/. For authors of accepted abstracts, draft papers will be due Jan. 20 and final papers, March 3.
