In spring, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Rail Transportation Division and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Vehicular Technology Society once again will sponsor a joint rail conference. The theme? “Restoring and Upgrading Rail Infrastructure, Rolling Stock and Systems.”

To be held April 4-6, 2006, at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, the two-day technical conference will feature technical papers focusing on advances in design, analysis and testing of equipment serving the rail industries. Topics include freight-car performance and longevity; wheel longevity and wear minimization; freight-car safety; operator and passenger safety; substations and catenaries; communications-based train control systems and hardware; and vehicle performance management. The event also includes a tour of Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority’s maintenance facilities.
