advertisement
The city of Childersburg Local Redevelopment Authority recently filed a notice of exemption with Surface Transportation Board to acquire a 12.7-mile line from the U.S. government at Alabama Army Ammunition Plant in Talladega County, Ala.
The U.S. Army is transferring ownership of the plant to Childersburg, the recipient of the property under the Base Realignment and Closure Act.
The line is under lease and used by Central of Georgia Railway Co., Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation. The city plans to continue honoring lease agreements with the railroads.
Childersburg and the U.S. government officials expect to consummate the deal no later than April 24.
