Alcatel completes interlocking system upgrade at first of four Romanian train stations

Alcatel Transport Automation Solutions recently finished installing an electronic interlocking system at Romanian National Railway’s Timisoara station.

As part of a $38.8 million contract awarded in 2000, the company installed its LockTrac 6111 interlocking system, which is designed to increase traffic capacity and safety, and reduce maintenance costs. Alcatel replaced the old relay-based system and all components, including signals, point machines, track circuits and cables.

Alcatel currently is modernizing interlocking systems at three other Romanian rail stations. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by mid-2005.
